NorMin Towns Deem "Most Competitive" In PH

Local government units (LGUs) in Northern Mindanao won top honors in the Cities and Municipalities Competitiveness Index (CMCI) award ceremonies that took place in Manila.

Award winners

Kauswagan, Lanao del Norte, Tubod, Surigao del Norte, and Santa Catalina, Ilocos Sur were the next three most competitive municipalities for the fifth and sixth class categories.

After Can-avid, Samar, Mambajao in Camiguin placed second in the Most Competitive Municipality for the third to fourth class category.

Mambajao's success in the component categories, where it ranked fifth in Economic Dynamism and 10th in Government Efficiency, helped it achieve second place.

Along with ranking first in the categories of Economic Dynamism and Government Efficiency, Kauswagan also ranked fourth in Infrastructure and tenth in Innovation.

The towns of Catarman and Mahinog were seventh and 10th, respectively, in the Most Competitive municipalities in the 5th to 6th Class category, while the province of Camiguin finished sixth overall in the Most Competitive Province.

Cagayan de Oro came in first in the Resiliency category of the Most Competitive Highly Urbanized City (HUC), sixth in the Innovation category, seventh in the Infrastructure, Government Efficiency, and Most Improved HUC categories, and ninth in the Economic Dynamism category.

All about CMCI

The National Competitiveness Council, in collaboration with the Regional Competitiveness Committees and the US Agency for International Development, creates the CMCI, an annual ranking of Philippine towns and municipalities. 

The National Capital Region's Quezon City, Manila, and Pasay City were named the top three Most Competitive HUCs in the awards' most notable honor.
