The government continues to place Northern Mindanao as its top priority for infrastructure development. President Ferdinand Marcos highlighted important transportation projects, detailing plans to expand Laguindingan Airport and other important infrastructure at an estimated cost of P13 billion.

Aside from the airport, key thoroughfares such as the CDO Coastal Road and CDO Diversion Road are also part of the funding.

Improving congestion for trade

According to the president, the P700 million Cagayan de Oro Port Expansion Project is being expedited to relieve port traffic, improve the effectiveness of commodity transportation, and support local economic dynamics.

He also stated the government's plans to establish the trauma and multispecialty units at the Northern Mindanao Medical Center in addition to ports, airports, and roadways.

“These developments represent concrete steps towards enhancing transportation, health services, and infrastructure in the region,” he noted.

Improving water problems in communities

In response to urgent water management issues, Marcos outlined upcoming flood control and irrigation projects, which are especially important for reducing the risk of flooding and water scarcity in CDO.

It includes the upcoming start of the Cagayan de Oro River Flood Risk Improvement and Management Project, which is expected to lessen flooding in the city and support current irrigation and water management efforts.

The Local Water Utilities Administration was charged by President Marcos with looking at management options for the Cagayan de Oro Water District.
