The Department of Tourism-Caraga welcomed the installation of two billboards at the Bart and Muni Light Railway Train Stations in San Francisco, California, USA, featuring the tourist sites of Siargao Island.

The DOT's stepped-up global effort is perceived to boost impact on the travel and tourist sector—not just in Siargao but also in the Caraga Region.

Surfing, the primary international sports event hosted on Siargao Island every year, was mainly featured on the billboards.

The wide campaign, according to the DOT, will allow international visitors to discover and learn more about Siargao Island, as well as other sites in the Caraga Region and throughout the country.

The advertisement is part of the department's 'Love the Philippines' program.

‘Love the Philippines’ campaign’

In 2023, the Department of Tourism (DOT) introduced a new tourism marketing slogan, "Love the Philippines," which replaces the 11-year-old "It's More Fun in the Philippines" brand to provide not just fun, but also a meaningful travel experience for tourists.

The new campaign is also said to take into account the shifting travel landscape, in which post-pandemic travelers seek profound real-world experiences.

The promotional video for Love the Philippines showed the various tourism aspects of the country. The administration's tourism activities include the exploration of even the most hidden spots throughout the country.

What is in Siargao

Mainly featured in the promotion, Siargao Island is known as an island paradise as well as the Philippines' surfing hub. In recent years, it has emerged as one of the top tourist destinations in the country..

Siargao Island is a teardrop-shaped island in Surigao del Norte province, facing Dinagat Island, the mainland Surigao, and a portion of the Pacific Ocean.

Aside from such natural wonders, it contains the largest mangrove forest deposits in Mindanao, which can be located near the town of Del Carmen, where one can get the best photographs of Caraga's famed crocodiles.

Aside from surfing, Siargao has other natural wonders to offer. There are Guyam Island, Dako Island, Bikini Island, Bucas Grande Islands, Bagacay, Magpopungko, and many others waiting to be explored by an intrepid traveler. The islands described are made up entirely of white sand as they still vie for tourism recognition.
