The province of Misamis Oriental celebrated its 94th founding anniversary last January 9, coinciding with the vibrant celebration of the 11th Kuyamis Festival.

Commencing with a heartfelt thanksgiving mass, the event not only showcased the region's rich cultural heritage but also unveiled ambitious plans that are set to elevate the province to new heights.

Ambitious Tourism Plans: The Tourism Loop

Misamis Oriental is a thrilling destination with a variety of landscapes, including tall mountains, lush jungles, beautiful palm-fringed beaches, and carefully crafted terraced hills. The region also boasts significant expressions of faith from sophisticated ancient cultures, providing visitors with captivating experiences.

This is the inspiration behind the local government's vision for the Tourism Loop, a 20 million pesos tourism project. This visionary initiative aims to interconnect key attractions across the province, providing visitors with a comprehensive experience.

From the Badjangon Waterpark in Gingoog City to The Groove and Flight 387 Shrine in Claveria town, Agutayan White Island, Sagpulon Falls in Jasaan, to the Lasang Eco-Park in Initao, the Tourism Loop promises an unforgettable journey through Misamis Oriental.

The province is also focusing on developing its agri-tourism sector, emphasizing collaboration between local leaders at every level to enhance the overall experience for tourists.

11th Kuyamis Festival Extravaganza

The week-long celebration, spanning from January 8 to 14, features a myriad of events. Highlights include the Miss Kuyamis 2024 Coronation Night, Street Dancing Competition, Pyromusical and Concert, Invitational National Airsoft Tournament, and Kuyamis Festival Booth Contest.

Noteworthy is the PAGLAUM Sports events, fostering sportsmanship, hard work, honesty, and solidarity among participating cities and municipalities.

Inauguration of the Coconut Processing Plant

Adding a significant milestone to the celebration, Misamis Oriental inaugurated a PHP150-million coconut processing plant. The facility stands as a testament to the region's commitment to economic development and sustainability.

Operated by the First Integrated Community Cooperative, the largest cooperative in Northern Mindanao located in Balingasag, the plant celebrates the abundance of "Kuyamis," the local term for young coconut, especially prevalent in the eastern part of the province.
