NLEX Corp., in collaboration with the provincial government of Bulacan, the municipality of Marilao, and the Estrella Animal Welfare Advocates, celebrated the launch of its road safety advocacy program, "I Care for Strays," in Barangay Patubig. This initiative marks a significant step towards promoting both animal welfare and road safety in the area.

Promoting Safety and Compassion

The "I Care for Strays" program aims to prevent and manage stray animal incidents along the North Luzon Expressway (NLEX) and nearby local roads. Donna F. Marcelo, NLEX Corp.'s Vice President for Communication and Stakeholder Management Division, highlighted the program's dual focus on safety and compassion.

"Our program is dedicated to promoting and protecting animal welfare while ensuring the safety of our motorists and community members,” Marcelo stated.

The launch included an orientation on animal welfare laws and responsible pet ownership, along with activities aimed at controlling the stray animal population. Over 300 cats and dogs received free spay and neuter services, deworming, and anti-rabies vaccinations, significantly improving animal welfare and road safety.

Community Leaders Praise the Initiative

Bulacan Governor Daniel Fernando commended NLEX Corp. for its commitment. "Your concern for the safety and welfare of animals is an important step towards creating safer and more orderly roads in Bulacan," he said.

Marilao Mayor Henry Lutao also expressed support, noting the positive impact on local residents. “Programs like ‘I Care for Strays’ significantly shape views on animal welfare and responsible pet ownership,” he remarked.

Positive Impact on Local Residents

The program has been met with appreciation from the community. Maribeth Bondoc, a pet owner, expressed gratitude for the free services. “This is a big help because it is difficult to take care of a lot of pets,” she said.

NLEX Corp., a subsidiary of the Metro Pacific Tollways Corp. (MPTC), continues to demonstrate its commitment to community welfare and road safety through various initiatives. In addition to "I Care for Strays," NLEX Corp. runs a barangay-level campaign called Kaligtasan Sa Daan (KalSaDa), educating residents on responsible road usage and safety tips.
