Students from Tuguegarao City Science High School (TCSHS) bagged third place in the MakeX Robotics World Championship, which took place in Yantai, China, from December. 8 to 11, 2023.

The competition was a fierce, large-scale robotic contest for over 3,000 high school students around the world.

The Robotic World tilt also provided an essential forum for advancing interdisciplinary research in science and technology.

Official results were released on January 15.

Grade 12 students Tyrone Gabrielle Pangilinan, Aaron Malabad, and Ezekiel Delos Santos made up the Tuguegarao delegates.

DOST’s boost

In addition to their robotics accomplishments, the team won the Best Cultural Award for representing the Filipino spirit in the competition.

TCSHS also got a boost from the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) Region 2's Smart and Sustainable Communities Program project, "Advancing Classroom-Based Collaboration and Enhancing Laboratory Equipment through the Provision of Robotics and Technological Equipment to Science-Oriented Students," or simply ACCELERATES.

Project ACCELERATES is a cutting-edge initiative that provides TCSHS labs with robotic kits and additional tools needed to accommodate different science learning styles and improve students' academic achievement.

Other contingents

On the other hand, more Filipino students represented their country in the World Robotics Competition.

Teams from Tabuk City National High School in Tabuk City and Luis Palad Integrated High School in Tayabas, Quezon participated in the contest.

Meanwhile, Biñan City Science and Technology High School and Philippine Science High School, Bicol Region Campus, rounded up the science high schools from the country in the competition.
