Phone cases can now be purchased from a vending machine, and even customized on the spot. The innovative business concept was introduced by Gen Z entrepreneur Ethan Chan.
Chan said he chose phone cases as the product because of their potential to combine technology, convenience, and personalization in a way that has yet to be widely seen in the Philippines.
“The reason why we chose phone cases as the product to sell in a vending machine is because it's something innovative and technological that isn't available in the Philippines yet,” he said.
Personalized phone cases made in minutes
The vending machine offers around 90 phone case models for customers to choose from. The cases are made from hard rubber material and are designed to be shockproof, waterproof, and scratch-resistant.
To create a customized phone case, customers simply select the “Customize” option, choose their phone model, upload an image through a QR code, adjust the design on the screen, make the payment, and wait for the case to be printed.
The process allows customers to create personalized accessories quickly and conveniently without the need for a traditional retail store.
From architecture graduate to growing business owner
After completing his architecture degree, Chan decided to pursue entrepreneurship when the opportunity presented itself.
“I always planned to become an architect and get my license first. But when the opportunity came, I thought, why not take it? It's an opportunity of a lifetime,” he said.
Just months after launching the business, Chan has already opened several branches and is now offering franchise opportunities to aspiring entrepreneurs.
The venture is reportedly generating a six-figure monthly income.
Chan encouraged aspiring business owners to trust their instincts and stay focused on their goals.
“It's always about trusting your instincts. Sometimes we doubt ourselves and ask if we're doing the right thing. But as long as we're focused on what we want to succeed in, we can achieve it,” he said.
