The Pinyasan Festival, which has its roots in the long-standing Camarines Norte tradition of pineapple cultivation, has come to symbolize agricultural prosperity and cultural identity.

The festival – a pineapple extravaganza honoring the richness of this tropical fruit – takes place in Daet, the capital town of Camarines Sur. The Pinyasan Festival, which began modestly in 1993, has since expanded into a magnificent event honoring the province's rich agricultural legacy as well as its  artistic and cultural heritage.

What started as a community celebration of the pineapple has evolved into an amazing exhibition of artistic talent, cohesion, and Camarinense cultural pride.

What to expect

The Pinyasan Festival usually happens in June, Camarines Norte's busiest month for harvesting pineapples. It spans multiple days, typically a week, and offers various activities to suit different interests. The abundant harvest of this tropical fruit, which represents the conclusion of months of labor and care, gives participants and guests a sense of authenticity to the celebration.

One of the festival's highlights is "Pinya sa Kalsada" (Pineapple on the Street), when bright pineapple decorations turn Daet's main streets into a vivid spectacle that is visually stunning and entertaining.

Foodies may also enjoy a pineapple-themed food market dotted across the streets, offering a tasty adventure highlighting the fruit's versatility.

Additionally, the community's creative skills are displayed as a large street parade takes center stage, with floats decorated with colorful pineapples cruising through the streets.

The dynamic essence of Camarines Norte is infused into the event through traditional dances, street performances, and cultural presentations, giving both locals and visitors an immersive experience.

Pineapple as the star

The pineapple, referred to locally as "pinya," is the unquestionable star of the celebrations and the center of the Pinyasan Festival.

The fruit's vivid colors and delightful scent symbolize the province's superior agricultural abilities.

The lasting impact of the Pinyasan Festival

The Pinyasan Festival demonstrates the province's dedication to maintaining its agricultural legacy by honoring the pineapple as a symbol of wealth. It highlights farmers' role in maintaining the region's economic prosperity while emphasizing the significance of sustainable agriculture.

It acts as a reminder of the essential relationship between the land and the community, which supports the preservation and advancement of farming methods in the province.

With the pineapple undoubtedly emerging as the festival star, the Pinyasan Festival is more than just an event; it's an immersive experience that welcomes everyone to share happiness, solidarity, and cultural pride.
