Bacolod Hospital Admits 50 Dengue Patients In Two Weeks; Respiratory Cases Rise Among Children

The Corazon Locsin Montelibano Memorial Regional Hospital (CLMMRH) reported 50 dengue admissions from October 1 to 14, according to its health advisory. The hospital also recorded respiratory-related cases among children during the same period.

Dengue cases across 16 barangays

Of the 50 dengue patients admitted, 38, or 76%, came from Bacolod City. The cases were recorded across 16 barangays.

Barangay Handumanan had the highest number of admissions, with six patients, followed by Taculing and Bata, with five each.

The Bacolod City Health Office recorded 891 dengue cases and six deaths as of October 3. This was 1.5% higher than the 878 cases recorded during the same period in 2025, when six deaths were also reported.

Respiratory illnesses affect children

CLMMRH's emergency department logged 182 entries involving patients with respiratory symptoms from October 1 to 14. Of these, 76 involved infectious respiratory conditions.

The hospital also treated 140 children for respiratory illnesses during the two-week period. Among them, 120 had community-acquired pneumonia, while 20 had influenza-like illnesses or viral infections.

The hospital did not specify how many of the 182 patients with respiratory symptoms came from Bacolod City.

Hospital urges preventive measures

CLMMRH advised residents to take precautions against respiratory infections and other illnesses, including:

  • Avoiding crowded places when possible.
  • Wearing well-fitting face masks in crowded indoor areas.
  • Covering coughs and sneezes properly.
  • Seeking medical consultation early when symptoms appear.

The hospital also reminded parents to protect children against W.I.L.D. diseases: waterborne diseases, influenza-like illnesses, leptospirosis, and dengue.

Where to seek medical care

Residents with mild respiratory symptoms can consult healthcare providers under PhilHealth's Yaman ng Kalusugan Program (YAKAP).

CLMMRH said early consultation may help prevent illnesses from worsening and reduce unnecessary emergency room visits.

Patients experiencing severe difficulty breathing or other emergency warning signs should seek medical attention immediately.
