"The Patrimony of All – Ang Panublion sang Tanan,"–an exhibition showcasing 16 carefully chosen works by well-known Filipino artists Juan Luna, Felix Hidalgo, Juan Arellano, and Fernando Amorsolo from the Lopez Museum and Library (LML) Collection–has been formally unveiled.
Spearheaded by the Lopez family of Iloilo for the display at the University of the Philippines Visayas Museum of Art and Cultural Heritage in Iloilo City, the family sent 16 masterpieces from the Lopez Museum and Library (LML) Collection.
Three paintings came from the Juan Arellano collection, five from the Fernando Amorsolo collection, and four each from the Juan Luna and Felix Hidalgo collections.
Showcasing masterpieces
Mercedes Lopez-Vargas, executive director of the Lopez Museum and Library and president of the Lopez Group Foundation, Inc., said she is excited to bring these important pieces to Iloilo to promote cultural awareness and highlight Filipino artistic legacy.
“Bringing these masterpieces to Iloilo was an opportunity to honor our roots that we cannot let pass,” Lopez-Vargas said.
“We hope to show that these artists painted not just what they saw and felt around them but also conversed with what was imagined elsewhere in the world,” she added.
It is a collaborative effort between the University of the Philippines Visayas, the Lopez Group Foundation, Inc., and the Iloilo City Government.
Open for all walks of life
The public can view the exhibit from November 26, 2024, to April 25, 2025, but after funding is obtained for a six-month extension, it will have a Cycle 2.
Arellano constructed the building where the exhibit is located, and some of the pieces on display are his paintings.
