Urbandub, the renowned Filipino rock band hailing from Cebu, began their musical journey in 2000. The founding members included Gabby Alipe (lead vocalist, songwriter, and arranger), Laylay Lim (bassist), John Dinopol (guitarist), Russell Manoloto (guitarist), and Sam Saludsong (drummer). Emerging from the independent music scene, they quickly garnered recognition as the "Heroes of Indie Bands."

Musical Journey

Genesis (2001)

Urbandub's initial album faced distribution challenges, lacking major record label support. Despite this, their debut single "Come" and its accompanying music video, funded by Sonic Boom productions, laid the foundation for their notoriety in Cebu City. The album, with evident influences from experimental rock bands like Deftones, marked a significant presence on independent radio.

Evolution (2003)

Their second release, INFLUENCE on Lighter Records, marked a shift in sound with a new drummer. The album featured radio hits like "Gone" and the acclaimed "Soul Searching," earning them accolades at the NU107 Rock Awards. However, the band faced challenges, with guitarist John Dinopol surviving a mistaken shooting during Cebu's frat/gang wars, showcasing their resilience.

Embrace (2005)

In 2005, Embrace solidified Urbandub's position, released under their management arm, Lighter Records. The album, recorded in Cebu, showcased their poetic metaphors through singles like "Alert The Armory" and the pop anthem "First of Summer," dominating local radio charts.

Under Southern Lights (2007)

After extensive touring and sales, Urbandub returned with Under Southern Lights in 2007. The album's title paid homage to Cebu City, embodying the band's roots and familial inspiration. The single "Anthem" exemplified their trademark mix of vocal harmonies and powerful instrumentals.

The Apparition (2009)

Parting ways with EMI in 2009, Urbandub signed with MCA MUSIC, releasing their most experimental album, "The Apparition." Recording in Cebu, the band showcased their eclectic taste by covering Depeche Mode's "Home" and Sade's "No Ordinary Love" in addition to the original track "Gravity."

Esoteric (2013)

In 2013, Urbandub's sixth album, Esoteric, featured the single "Never Will I Forget," a dedication to their devoted fanbase, the Dubistas. The band continued to evolve and stay connected with their audience.

Pause and Return

After a heartfelt 'farewell' concert in 2015, Urbandub surprised fans with a triumphant return in 2016, first as a trio and later as a quartet. The original lineup, back together in 2018, played to a crowd of dedicated "Dubistas," signaling a new chapter in their storied career.

Rebirth (2023): A New Phase

In 2023, Urbandub released "Rebirth," a reinterpretation of their 2001 debut album, "Birth." Partnering with Warner Music Philippines, the band treated fans to new arrangements, re-recordings, and fresh tracks. Celebrating 23 years of musical excellence, Urbandub rereleased "Birth" on digital streaming platforms, promising more exciting chapters in their extraordinary journey. As Cebu's pride, Urbandub continues to shape the face of Filipino indie music with their enduring passion and innovative spirit.
