Atugan Bridge in Bukidnon Now One Lane Only While Awaiting Repairs

The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) in Region 10 has limited traffic on the Atugan Bridge in Impasugong, Bukidnon, to one lane starting Tuesday, October 13, MindaNews reported.

“This measure is part of the ongoing efforts to maintain the safety and accessibility of the bridge while awaiting repair,” DPWH-10 said in its October 8 advisory.

Why the Restriction?

Public Works Secretary Vince Dizon ordered repairs after engineers inspected the bridge and rated its structural condition “poor.” The bridge was built in 1985.

At 64.5 meters, the Atugan Bridge is said to be the highest bridge in Mindanao.

Alternate Route

DPWH-10 advises drivers of light vehicles weighing up to five tons to use the Impasugong–Patulangan Bypass Road (Old Sayre Highway) to avoid congestion.

How Bad Is Traffic?

Not bad so far. Impasugong officials told MindaNews the expected heavy traffic did not happen, and vehicles were moving smoothly as of noon on October 13.

“The delay is only five minutes and the line of waiting vehicles is only 100 meters deep,” said Ed Alfred Alambra of the Impasugong Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office.

Travel Tip

Alambra advised motorists to avoid the bridge during peak hours, early mornings and late afternoons when schools and offices open and close.
