On July 9, the Davao city council approved an ordinance to incorporate the “Dabawenyo DCplinado” program into the city's educational curriculum. The ordinance, titled “Dabawenyo DCplinado for Future Generation,” represents a joint effort between the city government and the Department of Education – Davao City (DepEd-Davao).
Second congressional district Councilor Jonard Dayap, the ordinance's proponent and head of the committee on future generations, highlighted the program's role in fostering a values-based learning environment. “Integrating the Dabawenyo DCplinado program into the DepEd curriculum can create a values-based learning environment, equipping both learners and educators with the skills needed to thrive in our increasingly complex 21st-century society,” Dayap said.
Integrating Discipline into Basic Education
The Dabawenyo DCplinado program is designed to instill discipline and responsible citizenship within the basic education curriculum (BEC), which includes the K-12 curriculum established by the Enhanced Basic Education Act of 2013 (Republic Act No. 10533).
The program will be integrated into subjects such as values education, Araling Panlipunan, and Good Manners and Right Conduct. Modules will address civic responsibility, community engagement, respect for laws, cultural sensitivity, gender equality, personal discipline, ethical behavior, digital ethics, and environmental stewardship.
Supporting Educational Excellence
To ensure the program's successful implementation, the city government will provide the necessary human and material resources, funded through the special education fund. This commitment underscores Davao City's dedication to nurturing disciplined, responsible, and community-oriented young citizens.
By embedding the Dabawenyo DCplinado program into the curriculum, Davao City is taking a proactive step in preparing students to become active, conscientious citizens ready to meet the challenges of the 21st century.
