In a concerted effort to catalyze economic growth through innovation, Northern Mindanao gears up to host the third edition of the Northern Mindanao Regional Innovation Program and Exhibit (NorMinRIPE) from April 22 to 24 at SM Cagayan de Oro (CDO) Uptown. Spearheaded by the National Economic and Development Authority (NEDA)-10, in collaboration with the Department of Science and Technology (DOST)-10 and the CDO Chamber of Commerce and Industry Foundation, Inc., the event aims to underscore the pivotal role of innovation in propelling development across various sectors.
According to NEDA-10, innovation goes beyond mere technological advancements; it entails a mindset shift towards intelligent and strategic approaches to problem-solving. With President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. leading the charge, the National Innovation Council has laid out the National Innovation Agenda Strategy Document (NIASD), a comprehensive roadmap aimed at infusing innovation into the fabric of governance and society.
Empowering Entrepreneurs and MSMEs
Dr. Jesus Jardin, president of the CDO Chamber of Commerce and Industry Foundation, Inc., highlights the indispensable partnership between government agencies and the business community in driving innovation. Through collaborative efforts, numerous start-up businesses have emerged, sustained by support from NEDA, DOST, and the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI). Educational institutions like the University of Science and Technology of Southern Philippines (USTP) play a pivotal role in nurturing budding entrepreneurs and fostering innovation.

Jonathan Agbayani of DOST underscores the imperative of bridging the technology gap to ensure inclusive growth. Despite existing challenges, the Regional Research Development and Innovation Committee (RRDIC)-10 remains steadfast in its vision of establishing Northern Mindanao as an innovation-driven economy.
