In a historic move, over 50 stunning candidates of the Miss Universe Philippines 2024 landed in Isulan, Sultan Kudarat on Wednesday, April 24 to kickstart their exciting 4-day journey filled with culture, beauty, and empowerment.

Greeted with fervent cheers from fans along with the enchanting rhythms of traditional dances accompanied by indigenous melodies, the candidates received a heartwarming welcome at the General Santos City International Airport. This gesture marked a significant moment as it's the first time in the pageant's history that a major event will take place in Mindanao.

Putting Mindanao on the Global Stage

Spearheaded by MUPH president Jonas Gaffud and national director Shamcey Lee, the decision to host events in Sultan Kudarat aims to showcase the rich tapestry of Philippine beauty and culture to the world. Gaffud expressed, "It is about time that we have to showcase some places in our country that are never really showcased internationally." Similarly, Lee emphasized the importance of highlighting Mindanao's beauty, stating, "Hopefully, this is just the start of many more activities all over the Philippines and especially here in Mindanao kasi marami pang hindi natin na-showcase. So this is the start."

Beyond the glitz and glamour, the Miss Universe Philippines organization sees this as an opportunity to not only celebrate the cultural richness of Sultan Kudarat but also to challenge misconceptions and stereotypes about Mindanao. By bringing the candidates to the province, they aim to erase any stigma or fear associated with the region.

Honoring Tradition and Creativity

During their stay, the candidates will indulge in many activities celebrating Sultan Kudarat's heritage. From a fashion show featuring the vibrant Inaul woven cloth, meticulously crafted by Maguindanaon women, to a scenic photo shoot highlighting the province's breathtaking landscapes and landmarks, including Bansada Agri-Eco Adventure Park and Lutayan Lake, the contestants will immerse themselves in the beauty of the region.

As an added treat, the candidates will have the opportunity to savor the rich flavors of Sultan Kudarat's coffee, further solidifying the province's bid to become the official "Coffee Capital of the Philippines.
