The City of Zamboanga will see a second SM Supermall rise in the Zamboanga Peninsula and the eighth in Mindanao in 2024.
SM Supermall’s president Steven Tan said that the Zamboanga City's SM mall is one of the new five malls to open in the country this year for the supermarket giant.
The list includes SM City in Laoag, Ilocos Norte, SM City in La Union province, SM Premier mall near Nuvali, Sta. Rosa, Laguna, and SM City in Mandaue City, Cebu.
“We opened (in) Zamboanga a couple of years ago [in December 2020]. It grew to be very, very successful, so we’re very bullish with the Zamboanga market. We’re opening a bigger one,” said Tan in an interview with the ABS-CBN News Channel (ANC).
What to expect
With its refined and refreshing range of global brands, new dining concepts, and leisure attractions built in over 60,000 square meters of premium retail space, the new four-level SM City Zamboanga mall is expected to rise as a new lifestyle landmark for Zamboangeños.
An advanced cinema complex is also expected to be one of the main attractions in the mall.
Following the Department of Environment and Natural Resources' (DENR) issuance of an Environmental Certificate Compliance, SM City Zamboanga is anticipated to occupy 25,655 square feet or 49,102 square meters along the Nuñez Extension.
Modern shopping experience
SM City Zamboanga, with its enhanced biophilic design featuring an indoor garden, is ready to introduce a contemporary shopping experience.
The architecture seeks to engage with the rich cultural legacy of the area, bringing Zamboanga the best of SM as they transform it into a hub for travel and a destination for fresh lifestyle pleasures.
The local economy of Zamboanga City has experienced exponential growth, with 8,397 registered enterprises in 2013 and over 12,000 in 2021.
The city administration anticipates continued expansion in the upcoming years.
