Panghihina: Lifestyle Issue O Sakit?

Feeling tired, low on energy, or mentally drained has become a common experience for many people today. With demanding work schedules, lack of sleep, and ongoing stress, fatigue is often brushed off as part of daily life. However, not all tiredness should be treated the same way. It can either be a normal response to lifestyle habits or, in some cases, a sign of an underlying medical condition that requires attention.

In many situations, fatigue is linked more to lifestyle than illness. Poor sleep, unhealthy eating patterns, stress, and lack of proper nutrition can gradually affect both physical energy and mental alertness. Over time, these factors can build up and make everyday activities feel more exhausting than they should be.

Ordinary Fatigue vs. Possible Health Concerns

Ordinary fatigue is usually temporary. It often appears after a long day, insufficient sleep, or periods of increased physical or mental effort. With proper rest, balanced meals, and recovery time, energy levels typically return to normal.

However, when tiredness becomes persistent, even after adequate sleep and rest, it may point to a deeper health issue. Conditions such as thyroid problems, diabetes, sleep disorders, chronic stress, or other medical concerns may be involved. When symptoms continue, it is important to seek medical advice for proper evaluation.

Dr. Gary Sy, medical practitioner, explains that most cases of fatigue are actually lifestyle-related.

“Around 80% of fatigue cases are linked to lifestyle factors such as poor sleep, unhealthy eating habits, stress, and lack of proper nutrition,” he explained.

The Role of Nutrition, Rest, and Stress Management

Sustaining energy throughout the day requires more than just rest. Proper nutrition, adequate sleep, and stress management all work together to support both physical and mental performance. When these areas are neglected, the body naturally feels the effects through fatigue and reduced focus.

Dr. Sy also emphasizes that supplements can help support nutritional gaps, but they are not meant to replace healthy meals.

“Hindi pamalit sa tamang pagkain ang multivitamins. Dagdag lamang ito sa mga sustansyang maaaring kulang sa ating diet,” he explained.

He added that certain multivitamins may include ingredients that help support daily wellness needs.

“Yung Ultima ay isang halimbawa ng multivitamins with minerals and ginseng na maaaring makatulong sa pag-support ng energy at mental alertness,” Dr. Sy said.

Building Better Daily Energy Habits

While supplements may offer support, long-term wellness still depends on consistent healthy habits. Getting enough sleep, eating balanced meals, staying active, and managing stress remain the foundation of sustained energy and well-being.

Ultimately, understanding fatigue is about awareness. In many cases, it is not a sign of illness but a reflection of lifestyle imbalance. Knowing when to rest, when to adjust habits, and when to consult a healthcare professional can help individuals better manage their overall health and daily energy.
